Hurricane Ernesto, now a Category 2 storm, is advancing north through the Atlantic and poses a significant threat to the island of Bermuda. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns that Ernesto is expected to bring strong winds, dangerous storm surge, and life-threatening flooding to Bermuda starting on Friday.
Currently located about 320 miles south-southwest of Bermuda, Ernesto is packing maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. A hurricane warning has been issued for Bermuda, urging residents to complete preparations to protect life and property as soon as possible.

The storm’s center is predicted to pass near or over Bermuda on Saturday. While Ernesto might intensify into a major hurricane on Friday, it is expected to weaken slightly before reaching the island.
This is the fifth named storm of the 2024 hurricane season, and we are currently approaching the peak of hurricane season, which falls on September 10th. The hurricane season officially ends on November 30th.
