Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair Michael Blake suggested during a CNN segment on Monday that it is sexist to argue Vice President Kamala Harris “inherited” the Democratic nomination.
Blake said Republicans are using “subtle sexism and nonsense” to attack Harris because she is up in the latest national polling. Blake responded to Jesse Hunt, the former communications director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, who argued during the segment that Harris “inherited” her campaign from President Joe Biden after he dropped out of the race on July 21.
“I think the Republicans are scrambling because they know they have a disastrous ticket,” Blake said on “CNN News Central.” “So, their argument is that the vice president, as Jesse just said, inherited this. So there’s a lot of subtle sexism and nonsense within these kind of comments. She is the vice president. She was elected that if something happened to the president, she would step up. This is the reason why there’s such support around it.”
Blake said Harris will continue to gather momentum throughout her campaign despite Republicans’ attacks.

“And because of this supposed sugar high and things they say are so concerning, as your own screen is indicating, she’s up in the battleground states. So the reality is this, they can continue to have their nonsensical answers, and we will continue to see that people will stand in support of Kamala Harris,” Blake continued.
Left-wing members of the media have raised concerns about a Harris candidacy by arguing the nation is too “sexist” and “racist” to elect her. “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin said on July 8 that she was “uncomfortable” with the idea of Harris being the Democratic nominee because she does not trust the American public to vote for a black woman.
Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed on July 10 that Harris is an “undervalued talent” because she would be running in “a country that is sexist and racist.”

The Harris campaign and fellow Democrats have attacked Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance for mocking a slew of Democratic women, Harris being among them, of being “childless cat ladies” during a 2021 segment on Fox News’ former program, “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” Vance said the comment has been twisted by the political left, who he accused of pushing anti-family values during an appearance on “The Megyn Kelly Show” on July 26.
The media has further suggested criticism of Harris have been racist, particularly in response to Republican Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett calling her a “DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion] vice president.”
