Former President Donald Trump’s campaign suggested on Saturday that he would hold town halls if Vice President Kamala Harris declined his invitation for two additional debates.
During a press conference on Thursday, Trump proposed three dates for presidential debates on Fox News, NBC, and ABC. Both campaigns have agreed to a September 10 debate on ABC News, confirmed by ABC Washington Bureau Chief Rick Klein.
However, Harris has not committed to the proposed debates on September 4 on Fox News or September 25 on NBC.

“I’m glad that he’s finally agreed to a debate on September 10th,” Harris told reporters, according to CNN. “I’m looking forward to it, and I hope he shows up.”
Harris also indicated a willingness to discuss an additional debate after September 10th.
A Trump campaign official told the New York Post that “we’ll do town halls” if Harris does not participate in the proposed debates. Initially, both Trump and Biden had agreed to a September 10 debate on ABC News. However, after Biden dropped out of the race, Trump suggested he might not debate Harris on that date, instead proposing a debate on Fox News.
Since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee on July 21, Harris has not held a press conference, a point Trump criticized during his Thursday press conference.

“She can’t do an interview. She’s barely competent and can’t do an interview,” Trump said. “But I look forward to the debates because I think we have to set the record straight.”
