A robbery suspect’s attempt to evade arrest took a rather soggy turn today when he decided to jump into the Halifax River.

Daytona Beach Police officers responded to a robbery call earlier today. Upon spotting the suspect on a bridge, they anticipated a routine apprehension. However, the suspect, identified as Richard Martinovics, had other plans. He leaped into the river in a desperate bid for freedom.

The police department’s Marine Unit was swiftly deployed, and Martinovics was quickly “fished” out of the water and taken into custody.

“His grand escape plan? Let’s just say it didn’t hold water,” the Daytona Beach Police Department quipped in a statement. “Now he’s not just under arrest, he’s soaking wet too!”

The incident serves as a reminder that attempting to flee from the police rarely ends well. As the police department put it, “Lesson of the day: Trying to swim away from your problems will only land you in deep water—and a wet jail cell!”
