LAKELAND, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) received a distress call today about two dogs trapped in rising floodwaters in a west Lakeland neighborhood due to Hurricane Debby.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that much of the neighborhood was in danger of flooding.

In response, PCSO’s Special Operations team was dispatched with their specialized Swamp Buggy, a vehicle designed for navigating flooded areas. The team worked tirelessly to help residents and their pets evacuate the area safely.

“Our deputies are committed to serving and protecting our community, and that includes our furry friends,” said the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in an X post. “We’re grateful that we were able to help these residents and their pets escape the floodwaters safely.”

The PCSO urges residents in flood-prone areas to heed evacuation warnings and to have a plan in place for themselves and their pets in case of emergency. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to call 911.
