LAKELAND, Fla. – A tragic accident on New Tampa Highway in Lakeland yesterday afternoon resulted in the death of one driver and left another with minor injuries.
The crash involved a blue Toyota Camry and a green semi-truck.
Around 3:20 p.m., the Camry, traveling eastbound, veered into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with the semi-truck. The impact caused the truck to overturn onto its driver’s side.

Emergency responders from the Lakeland Police Department, Polk County Fire Rescue, and the Lakeland Fire Department rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts, the Camry driver, a 40-year-old Indianapolis, Indiana man, was pronounced dead at Lakeland Regional Health. The semi-truck driver of Lakeland sustained minor injuries.
The roadway remained closed for approximately three hours as investigators processed the scene. The cause of the Camry’s sudden lane change remains under investigation.
