HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A large fight involving dozens of juveniles at the Brooksville Youth Academy on July 28th resulted in several injuries and multiple arrests. The private facility, which provides residential treatment for youth with mental health and behavioral needs, experienced a chaotic scene as fights broke out in dormitories and the courtyard.
Local law enforcement, assisted by neighboring agencies, responded to the incident. Some juveniles were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from lacerations to a concussion and fractured nose.
Two juveniles were charged with attempted murder due to their actions during the fight, including the use of an improvised weapon.

Following the initial release of most juveniles back to the facility, Judge Daniel Merritt Jr. ordered all of them to be remanded into custody and transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with law enforcement coordinating with relevant state agencies.
