NEW ORLEANS, LA – Kenneth Tate, a 43-year-old resident of New Orleans, entered a guilty plea on July 25, 2024, before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe for violating the Federal Gun Control Act.
According to court documents, law enforcement officials were conducting surveillance near Tara Lane in New Orleans East when they observed Tate, armed with a rifle, in the breezeway of an apartment building. Officers witnessed Tate engaging in a hand-to-hand drug transaction while still armed.
A subsequent search of the apartment uncovered the rifle and an additional handgun. Tate had prior felony convictions that prohibited him from possessing firearms.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Tate’s sentencing is scheduled for October 24, 2024. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release, in addition to a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a collaborative program involving law enforcement agencies at all levels and the communities they serve. PSN aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence, striving to create safer neighborhoods for all residents.
