LAKELAND, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) proves that no crime is too small to investigate, especially when it involves a stolen bicycle from a 12-year-old’s front porch.

On Saturday morning, July 27th, Deputies Lofton and Sookhoo responded to a report of a stolen light purple Huffy bicycle in the Timbercreek Loop and Saddle Creek Road area of Lakeland.

The deputies quickly identified the suspect as 35-year-old James Calhoun, using footage from a neighbor’s security camera.

When confronted, Calhoun denied the theft but was found in possession of the stolen bike, now sporting freshly painted yellow handlebars – a tribute to his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Despite Calhoun’s claims of a bike swap with a “random person,” he was arrested and charged with burglary and theft.

The recovered bicycle was returned to its rightful owner just in time for her 12th birthday celebration, proving once again that PCSO is dedicated to serving and protecting its community, no matter how big or small the case.
