ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Four teenagers were struck by lightning on Thursday evening while seeking shelter under a banyan tree in downtown St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg Fire Rescue arrived promptly and began life-saving efforts at the scene.

A 16-year-old female, initially in cardiac arrest, was revived by paramedics before arriving at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where she is currently listed as a trauma alert.

A young boy, also listed as a trauma alert, was transported to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with burns and is in stable condition. Two additional minors, a boy and a girl, were taken to the same hospital and are in stable condition.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue paramedics’ swift actions and expertise were credited with saving those involved’s lives. Their ability to revive the young woman and quickly stabilize all four victims was crucial in ensuring they received the necessary medical care.

Correction: Originally, it was reported that the person in cardiac arrest was in her 20s. St. Pete Fire Rescue clarified Friday that she was 16 years of age.
