Lee County Armed Carjacker Gets Over 12 Years In Federal Prison

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lee County man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for his involvement in an armed carjacking. U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber handed down the sentence following the defendant’s guilty plea to carjacking and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court documents, the defendant, along with two accomplices, used a firearm to threaten and rob a victim of their vehicle. The incident occurred on March 18, 2023, at the intersection of Edison Avenue and Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard in Fort Myers.

The defendant and his accomplices approached the victim’s vehicle, brandished a firearm, and demanded the victim exit the car. The victim complied, and the carjackers fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Law enforcement later apprehended the defendant and his accomplices. The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges against him and was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The case was investigated by the FBI and the Fort Myers Police Department.
