Water Quality Advisories Issued For Hillsborough County Beaches And Lake Thonotosassa

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla – The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough) has issued water quality advisories for several locations due to elevated bacteria levels and the presence of harmful blue-green algae.

Beach Advisories:

  • Bahia Beach: Water tests conducted on July 17th revealed that the water quality does not meet recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria. Swimming and other water-related activities are not advised due to an increased risk of illness. The advisory will remain in effect until bacteria levels return to normal.
  • Ben T. Davis Beach and Picnic Island Beach: While no advisories are currently in effect for these locations, residents are encouraged to check the latest water quality information at FloridaHealth.gov/HealthyBeaches before engaging in water activities.

Lake Thonotosassa Health Alert:

  • A health alert has been issued for Lake Thonotosassa due to the presence of harmful blue-green algae, which can produce toxins. While water sample testing is underway, residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid contact with the water until further notice.
