A political committee supporting a proposed amendment to enshrine hunting and fishing rights in the state Constitution has raised significant funds, according to a recent finance report.

The “Vote Yes on Amendment 2” committee has accumulated $714,200 as of last week, including $9,500 raised between June 29 and July 5.

The committee has also spent a portion of the funds, totaling $103,436, with $10,500 allocated to political and fundraising consultants during the same period.

This financial activity indicates a strong push for the amendment, which aims to “preserve forever fishing and hunting, including by the use of traditional methods, as a public right and preferred means of responsibly managing and controlling fish and wildlife.”

However, the amendment faces opposition from the “NoTo2.Org” political committee, which has raised $3,601 to date. To pass, the amendment requires the support of 60% of voters in the upcoming November election.

The financial report on the state Division of Elections website sheds light on the ongoing campaign efforts surrounding this controversial issue.

The upcoming election will ultimately determine the fate of this proposed amendment as voters decide whether to enshrine hunting and fishing rights in the state Constitution.
