A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy is recovering from a fractured leg after a suspect ran him over during a traffic stop early Friday morning.
The incident began around 12:05 am on July 5th, when a deputy attempted to pull over a black BMW on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue. The driver disobeyed and sped away.
Twenty minutes later, at 12:25 am, the same deputy spotted the BMW again on Plantation Oaks Drive and initiated a second traffic stop. Tragically, as the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect rammed him with the car and fled the scene.

The injured deputy was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of his fractured leg.
Investigators located the suspect’s abandoned car roughly a mile from the second traffic stop. While they have identified the vehicle’s owner, the suspect themself remains at large.
“This suspect’s actions have no regard for human life, choosing to ram a deputy without considering that his reckless actions could tragically impact the deputy’s life,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies come to work committed to making a difference in their community with every call for service, but also knowing how dangerous this career can be, putting their lives on the line every day.”

“The safety of our deputies and the community is our top priority. Our detectives are working steadfastly to bring this suspect to justice for his reckless actions,” said Sheriff Chronister. “We are asking the community to contact our detectives if they witnessed the incident. Your information can be an important key to this investigation.”
