Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended an Ecuadorian man in western Massachusetts last month. The man, who is not being identified, was wanted in Ecuador on charges of child rape and invasion of privacy.

“This Ecuadorian fugitive is facing some very serious charges, but instead of facing the justice system, he fled and attempted to take refuge in Massachusetts,” said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons. “He posed a significant threat to the children of our communities, and we cannot allow that to continue. ERO Boston will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.”

According to ICE, Border Patrol agents initially apprehended the man near the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona in June 2021.

He was released with a notice to appear before an immigration judge. Ecuadorian authorities issued an arrest warrant in May 2023.

Deportation officers from ERO Boston apprehended him on June 12 near his residence in Northampton, Massachusetts.

This incident highlights ICE’s efforts to locate and remove individuals wanted for serious crimes in their home countries. In a recent nationwide operation, ICE apprehended multiple individuals wanted for human rights abuses.
