Congressman Greg Steube (R-FL) delivered a scathing rebuke of President Joe Biden and other Democratic leaders for their reactions to the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on presidential immunity.

Steube accused the Democrats of engaging in their “typical ploy” to mislead and frighten American voters, arguing that the court’s ruling was a necessary step to “reset the pendulum back to the law.”

The Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision established that former presidents are entitled to “presumptive immunity” for all “official acts” conducted during their time in office. This ruling significantly complicates the legal battles against former President Donald Trump, who has faced a myriad of investigations and prosecutions in the wake of his presidency.

President Biden condemned the Supreme Court’s decision, asserting that it “undermines the rule of law” and implies that a president “will no longer be constrained by the law.” Congressman Steube, however, dismissed Biden’s reaction as “fearmongering,” accusing the Democrats of weaponizing the justice system to target their political opponent.

Steube argued that the Democrats’ response to the Supreme Court’s ruling was part of their “typical ploy” to “make it all about Trump taking over the country and fearmongering the American people.” He insisted that the American people are “smarter than that” and have seen Trump’s poll numbers increase after each successive indictment, as they recognize the Biden administration’s efforts to “weaponize the court system and the DOJ to go after his political opponent.”

“It’s fearmongering by the Democrats,” Rep. Steube said on Fox & Friends. “It’s your typical ploy to try and make it all about Trump taking over the country and fearmongering the American people. And the American people are smarter than that.”

Addressing the crux of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case against Trump, Steube reiterated that the former president had explicitly told his supporters to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” on January 6th, 2021. The congressman argued that this statement and the rally Trump held prior to the Capitol riot were well within the confines of the president’s official duties.

Steube also cited Justice Clarence Thomas’s opinion, which suggested that the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith was unconstitutional, as he was not authorized by Congress. The congressman believed this should be a focal point for House Republicans moving forward.

When asked about Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) pledge to draft articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court for the immunity ruling, Steube dismissed the idea as “not going to happen.”

He explained that removing a Supreme Court justice has never occurred in the history of the country, as it would require a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which he believed the Democrats were unlikely to achieve.

Steube pointed out the irony of the Democrats’ stance, noting that they had previously advocated for packing the court with justices who would align with their political agenda. He accused the party of “weaponizing the justice system” and going after the court because they “do not agree with them.”
