TAMPA, Fla. – A federal grand jury has indicted Krupaben Himanshu Bhatt, a 37-year-old woman from Odessa, on charges of international parental kidnapping. If convicted, Bhatt faces a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison.

The indictment alleges that in January 2024, Bhatt unlawfully removed her two minor children from the United States, intending to obstruct the parental rights of their father.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) led the investigation, highlighting the agency’s dedication to combating international parental kidnapping cases. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Courtney Derry.

An indictment is merely a formal accusation, and Bhatt is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

However, the charges against her carry significant potential penalties, including imprisonment and fines.
