A 58-year-old Florida man has been arrested for secretly placing cameras in his ex-girlfriend’s daughter’s bedroom and bathroom.
According to police, on May 17, a mother contacted the Ocala Police Department after finding out about a hidden camera in an electrical outlet in her daughter’s bathroom.
An officer responded and recovered the device, which was blinking. The small lens could be seen from inside the electrical plug’s bottom ground outlet, which was directly facing the shower and toilet.
The mother told investigators that she had a past relationship with John Butler, 58, who had lived with them for a time.

Ocala PD responded to the residence again on May 19 about another hidden camera discovered.
That camera was disguised as a Wi-Fi repeater in the daughter’s room. The router was installed by John Butler a few years prior.
Detectives began thoroughly investigating this case and established probable cause to arrest Butler for installing the hidden cameras in areas where privacy is to be expected.
Butler was located at his workplace, Butler Insurance, and was placed under arrest for video voyeurism.
“During an interview, Butler initially agreed to speak; however, he later invoked his Fifth Amendment right when questioned if he had any videos or images of the young woman on his phone,” said Ocala PD.

He was taken to the Marion County Jail on May 22.
“Crimes like this will not be tolerated, and we will always strive to bring perpetrators to justice. Remember, always be aware of your surroundings to protect your personal privacy. Hidden cameras can be discreetly placed in everyday items like electrical outlets, routers, smoke detectors, and other household objects. Inspect your personal spaces, especially bathrooms and bedrooms, for suspicious devices. If you find anything suspicious, report it to the police immediately,” said Ocala PD.
