The Trump campaign raised approximately $35 million after he was convicted guilty of 34 felony counts in a New York hush money trial, arguing that the verdict boosted support among grassroots donors.

“Today, the Trump campaign announced a record-shattering small-dollar fundraising haul following the sham Biden Trial verdict totaling $34.8 million – nearly double the biggest day ever recorded for the Trump campaign on the WinRed platform. Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrats with their election interference political witch hunt have awakened the MAGA movement like never before.

“From just minutes after the sham trial verdict was announced, our digital fundraising system was overwhelmed with support, and despite temporary delays online because of the amount of traffic, President Trump raised $34.8 million dollars from small-dollar donors,” Trump campaign senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said in a statement.

But not all donations were small.

Shaun Maguire, the founder of Sequoia Capital, donated a whopping $300,000 following the verdict.

In an op-ed published on X and the Tampa Free Press, Maguire said, “I just donated $300k to Trump. I’m prepared to lose friends. Here’s why. Back in 2016, I had drunk the media Kool-Aid and was scared out of my mind about Trump. As such, I donated to Hilary Clinton’s campaign and voted for her. By 2020, I was disillusioned and didn’t vote – I didn’t like either option. In 2024, I believe this is one of the most important elections of my lifetime, and I’m supporting Trump.”

After Trump’s guilty verdict was announced Thursday, a flurry of statements lamenting the decision flooded media and social media:

Professor Jonathan Turley: “It fulfills the narrative that the former president has been stating for years — that there is this weaponization of the legal system … I still don’t know what the president was convicted of!”

Sen. Ted Cruz: “It is a travesty of justice that has unfolded in New York … today, the New York ‘justice system’ made itself a global laughingstock.”

Sen. Marco Rubio: “The shock is not that they went after [President Trump], they’ve been doing this against Trump for 7 or 8 years. — the shock is that this could happen in America.”

Sen. Tim Scott: “Absolute injustice. This erodes our justice system. Hear me clearly: You cannot silence the American people. You cannot stop us from voting for change.”

Judge Jeanine Pirro: “What they have done is awaken a sleeping giant!”

Laura Ingraham: “Turn this dark day into a time to recommit yourself to saving America from these vindictive, far-left tyrants.”

Speaker Newt Gingrich: “The amount of energy that’s going to be available for Trump is going to go up very, very dramatically.”

The Comeback of Trump’s Mega-Donors

The past few weeks have witnessed a remarkable influx of elite Republican donors and Trump-curious business leaders returning to the former president’s camp. This reversal of fortune comes after many of Trump’s most prominent supporters, such as the Adelson family, had defected in the wake of the January 6th events.

The Adelson Family’s Renewed Commitment

One of the most significant developments is the decision by casino billionaire Miriam Adelson to pour millions of dollars into reviving the pro-Trump super PAC, Preserve America. The Adelson family, led by the late Sheldon Adelson, were Trump’s biggest donors in 2020, contributing a staggering $90 million to the super PAC. With Miriam Adelson’s renewed financial commitment, the Preserve America PAC, now overseen by Trump’s co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita, is poised to play a crucial role in the former president’s 2024 bid.

Hedge Fund Titans and Blackstone Executives Rally Behind Trump

In addition to the Adelsons, other high-profile figures in the financial sector have also thrown their weight behind Trump’s resurgence. Hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman, known for his crusade against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies and his stance on combating antisemitism on college campuses, is likely to endorse the former president. Furthermore, Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman, who had previously called for “a new generation of leaders,” has now indicated that he will support and donate to Trump’s campaign.

Elon Musk’s Growing Influence

The list of Trump’s newfound supporters extends beyond the traditional Republican donor base. Elon Musk, the influential CEO of Tesla, has emerged as a key ally, meeting with the former president at activist investor Nelson Peltz’s Florida mansion in March. Since then, Musk has been speaking to Trump multiple times per month and is organizing dinner parties to rally elite opposition against President Biden.
