An Arizona teen has been arrested and charged with the murder of his own father, Joshua Lee Goldman.

According to police reports, the shooting occurred just before 4 pm near 66th Avenue and Delmonico Lane, south of Olive Avenue in Glendale.

Officers responding to the scene found the 39-year-old victim, Joshua Lee Goldman, inside the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Goldman succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

Statements from Goldman’s daughter, who was present during the incident, revealed that she had been arguing with her father when the teenage suspect, her brother, intervened and opened fire.

The daughter claimed she was on the other side of a closed door and did not witness the actual shooting. Goldman’s father, who was also in the home at the time, reported hearing the argument followed by gunshots but did not see the events unfold.

Both eyewitnesses told authorities that the suspect fled the scene with a friend, leaving the home in Goldman’s Toyota Camry. A Ring doorbell camera captured footage of the two teenagers running out of the house, with the friend heard asking the suspect, “Did you get the gun?” to which the suspect responded, “Yeah.”

Law enforcement was able to track the stolen vehicle as it headed towards Las Vegas. The Arizona Department of Public Safety was notified, and state troopers spotted the Camry around 7 pm in Kingman, approximately 170 miles from the crime scene. A high-speed chase ensued, reaching speeds of up to 130 mph, before a trooper used a Grappler device to bring the car to a stop.

The 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody, still wearing an empty holster on his waistband.

A 9mm handgun was later recovered from the floorboard of the Camry. During questioning, the teen claimed that he and his sister lived in Nevada with their father, and they were visiting their grandfather in Glendale for the summer.

The suspect alleged that his father, who had been missing for over a day, showed up at the house “visibly intoxicated” on the day of the incident. He claimed that Goldman began yelling at his sister, demanding her phone, and even hitting her.

The teen said he yelled at his father to stop, but Goldman then came out of the bedroom and reached for the gun on his waist, prompting the teen to pull his own weapon and shoot.

However, the suspect’s sister and his friend contradicted portions of his account. The sister acknowledged the argument over the phone but denied that Goldman had hit her. She did agree that her father appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time. The friend also stated that he did not see Goldman reaching for his gun before the teen opened fire.

The 14-year-old suspect has been charged with second-degree murder and minor in possession of a firearm. Authorities have not yet determined if the friend who accompanied the suspect will face any charges.
