1 Dead, Others Injured In Shooting On 17th Street In Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that happened around 3:30 am in the 3400 block of 17th Street, Sarasota.

Deputies initially responded to the Tallywood Centre Plaza at approximately 3:30 am, where they observed a large crowd with multiple shooting victims in the parking lot.

One victim, Tommie L. Battie IV, 24, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Four additional victims were transported to local hospitals in Manatee and Sarasota counties. The conditions of the other victims have not been updated.

One eastbound lane of 17th Street between Tallywood Drive and Beneva Road was shut down during part of the investigation.
