Florida Rep. Greg Steube said Thursday there’s no chance President Joe Biden would pardon former President Donald Trump because he has invested too much in Trump’s legal troubles as a political weapon.
During an interview with Newsmax, the Sarasota Republican reacted to comments by often left-leaning GOP Sen. Mitt Romney, who earlier this week argued that Biden should have issued a pardon.
Romney told NBC News that Biden “made an enormous error” by not immediately pardoning Trump of the two federal indictments against him and by not pressuring New York City prosecutors to drop their case against Trump.

Trump is currently on trial in the Big Apple for allegedly paying off porn actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair. Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg contends the 2016 payment was actually an attempt to sway the 2016 election.
Trump denies the allegations.
But Trump’s multiple legal issues — with another election-rigging charge in Atlanta and separate federal charges of prompting the Jan. 6, 2021, riot and mishandling classified records — have not been the political kryptonite Democrats hoped for.
His polling numbers have only strengthened as the proceedings continue, and he’s drawing increasing support from black and Hispanic voters, two voting blocs that DEI-driven Democrats take for granted.
Biden said Romney “should have fought like crazy to keep this prosecution from going forward. It was a win-win for Donald Trump.”

“Had I been President Biden, when the Justice Department brought on indictments, I would have immediately pardoned him,” Romney added.
“I’d have pardoned President Trump. Why? Well, because it makes me, President Biden, the big guy and the person I pardoned a little guy.”
Congressman Steube, however, said Biden’s too far gone for that.
“This is 100% election interference. They’re doing this intentionally. Even if they don’t get a conviction in New York, they have taken Trump off the campaign trail,” Steube told Newsmax.
He also noted the cases have forced Trump to dole out “tens of millions of dollars having to defend himself for ridiculous charges that he shouldn’t have to defend himself for.”
“They’re using the justice system to try to 1) take his money away, and 2) take him off the campaign trail,” said Steube.
Steube also lamented that House Republicans have not more vigorously pursued impeachment charges against Biden as the evidence mounts that the “Biden crime family” has banked millions from deals with foreign interests, including in communist China.
“That’s the real travesty here — as you have a sitting president who actually has evidence of crimes being committed, then using his power as president and the Department of Justice to go after his No. 1 political opponent,” said Steube.
