Financial Dispute In South Carolina Ends With Woman Killing Her Husband

A 63-year-old woman South Carolina woman has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting and killing her 64-year-old husband.

According to the police reports, the incident took place around 9 pm on a Sunday evening in the Loris area of South Carolina.

Laura Smith, 63, the accused, had called the authorities herself, informing them that she had shot her husband, Michael Frederick Smith, and was waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

When officers responded to the call and entered the residence, they found Michael Smith lying on his back in the bedroom, with a single gunshot wound to his upper right chest and blood coming from his mouth.

A black handgun was discovered next to his lifeless body.

The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred after a verbal dispute between the couple, which was reportedly centered around financial matters.

Laura Smith’s arrest warrant alleges that “after having a verbal dispute pertaining to finances,” she “did shoot the victim with a revolver two times in the torso,” leading to his tragic demise.

Following the incident, Laura Smith was taken into custody by the police. She is now facing a murder charge for the shooting of her husband, Michael Smith. The Horry County Coroner, Tamara Willard, has confirmed the identity of the victim and the cause of death.
