Former President Trump just secured an endorsement from a prominent black celebrity.
The Epoch Times reported on Thursday that Trump got the nod from legendary boxing promoter Don King.
According to the Times, King, 92, was asked at an event on Wednesday if he had a message for Trump, who is battling a criminal trial in New York City.
“Get reelected,” King replied. “And we must re-elect him to save ourselves. You know, a vote for Trump is a vote for yourself. Because we’ve got to fight the system of lies and the creation of wrong being right and right being wrong, that’s got to be eliminated.”
King said Trump is “the only man who’s got the intestinal fortitude to stand up and fight the system like it should be fought.” That system, King added, features “corruption and hypocrisy.”
“I want to say to him, let’s [save] America, let’s save ourselves, and then we can help others to be safe,” King added.
Trump posted the video on his social media platform, Truth Social, adding “THANK YOU DON!”
King, who in his heyday rubbed shoulders with the kings of heavyweight boxing, such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman, had also endorsed Trump in 2016.
As the Times noted, a year later, with Trump in the White House, Politico interviewed King and asked him who Trump would be if he was a boxer.
“He’d be Muhammad Ali .. .because he’s going to win,” King said. “He’s going to run his mouth, he’s going to talk a lot and he’s going to win.”
