A teacher in Tennessee has been charged with threat of mass violence at a school and two counts of carrying a weapon onto school property after she allegedly threatened another teacher at The Academy of McCrory Lane, a preschool.

According to WKRN-TV, officers responded to the school on Thursday, April 18, at approximately 11 a.m., regarding the threats.

Witnesses reported that Sheneca Cowart, 29, threatened to grab a firearm and made threats against another teacher and the school after an argument. According to staff members, she even went as far as threatening to “shoot up” the preschool.

The seriousness of the situation prompted the school to immediately go into lockdown until the arrival of the police.

School safety officers wasted no time in taking Cowart into custody. The Metro Nashville Police Department recovered a handgun from Cowart’s purse and found a second firearm in her vehicle.

As a result, she is now facing one count of assault, one count of threat of mass violence at a school, and two counts of carrying a weapon onto school property.

Following her arrest, Cowart was booked into jail on a $37,000 bond. However, she was able to post bail late Thursday night.

She is due in court on May 10, where the charges against her will be addressed. It remains to be seen whether Cowart has entered a plea in the case, as her online court file does not list an attorney of record.
