HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister was nominated and selected to receive the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay’s Hispanic Prestige 2020 Award.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, Hispanic community leaders invited Sheriff Chad Chronister to a special ceremony where they presented him with the award. Recipients were selected based on their contributions to the Hispanic community and the efforts they have made to build long-lasting, authentic relationships with its members.
Since he took office, Sheriff Chad Chronister has worked closely with Hispanic community leaders to strengthen ties between HCSO and the fast-growing Spanish-speaking population in Hillsborough County. The Sheriff’s Hispanic Advisory Council meets regularly to discuss issues, work on solutions, and organize community outreach events. In recent weeks, the council partnered with e-Smart Recycling to distribute dozens of computers to students at Dover Elementary School who are doing e-learning. In some of the cases, several children in the household were sharing one device to complete their classwork.
Under Sheriff Chad Chronister’s leadership, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also launched a new online police reporting portal this year that allows crime reports to be filed in English or Spanish, in hopes of reaching a segment of the community that oftentimes does not report incidents because of language barriers.
These achievements, along with Sheriff Chad Chronister’s ongoing efforts to reach out to the Hispanic community, led the chamber’s Board of Directors to select him as one of this year’s award recipients.
“It is my mission to ensure the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office equally serves every resident of our community,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I am honored and humbled to receive this award and will continue to find ways for HCSO to build upon the great foundation we have worked hard to create.”
