Democratic Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz walked through the halls of the Capitol wearing a mask resembling Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.

The Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee held a hearing Wednesday to examine President Joe Biden’s alleged abuse of public office and foreign business dealings as part of a larger investigation that began in 2023.

Moskowitz walked up to reporters wearing a Putin mask and sardonically told them he wanted to “thank” Oversight Committee Chair James Comer for using Russian intelligence in the investigation process.

“I just came to thank James Comer for taking all of our intelligence and using it in the committee,” Moskowitz told reporters. “Maybe he can come see all of the technology in our grocery stores.”

“Congressman, don’t you think this behavior is kind of immature?” asked one reporter, to which Moskowitz did not respond as he walked into the staff and members-only wing of the committee room before removing the mask.

It isn’t clear what exactly Moskowitz was referring to, though he has made jokes before about the Oversight Committee and Russian information.

Moskowitz has clashed with Comer during previous Oversight Committee hearings, insisting that Biden and his son have not committed any wrongdoing or engaged inappropriately in foreign business dealings, despite evidence that appears to contradict that assertion. Comer once referred to Moskowitz as a “smurf” during a hearing in November.

Comer invited Hunter Biden to testify alongside his former business associates Devon Archer, Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis before the Oversight Committee during Wednesday’s hearing. Biden declined the invitation.

Moskowitz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
