A woman has been detained in connection with the murder investigation of her 5-year-old son, whose body was discovered in a suitcase in a wooded of Indiana over two years ago.
Dejaune Anderson was detained by the United States Marshals Service in California while boarding a public transportation train in the Los Angeles suburb Arcadia on Thursday, according to an Indiana State Police statement released Friday.
According to the statement, Anderson has had a warrant for her arrest in Washington County, Indiana, since October 2022 on allegations of murder, abandonment of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.

Her son, Cairo Jordan, was discovered dead on April 16, 2022, in a wooded area of eastern Washington County, when a man foraging for mushrooms discovered a hard-shell suitcase with a body inside, according to authorities.
After locating the abandoned baggage, the man dialed 911. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded, and Indiana State Police investigators in Sellersburg began the investigation, according to police.
A month after Cairo’s death, authorities announced that an autopsy found that the then-unidentified boy died of electrolyte imbalance, most likely caused by gastroenteritis (vomiting and diarrhea), which led to deadly dehydration.
In October 2022, police identified the body as Cairo and issued a warrant for his mother.
