1 Man Killed, 1 Injured In Florida After Being Electrocuted While Trimming Palm Trees

One man was killed, and a second man was airlifted to the hospital after they were electrocuted while working Friday.

According to Monroe County Sherifff’s Office, the two men worked for Blue Island Landscaping.

Deputies say they were on a job site on Cannon Royal Drive, Shark Key, at the 11-mile marker of Highway US-1.

According to reports, they were taking down an extension ladder just before 3 p.m. after trimming a palm tree when their ladder hit an electrical line.

There were reportedly two doctors on a nearby property who assisted with treating the men while paramedics and deputies were on their way.

One of the victims, 29-year-old Luis Eduardo Graterol Gonzalez of Big Coppitt Key, was transported to Lower Keys Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The other man, Skylar Carron Smith, was airlifted by Trauma Star to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where he is reportedly stable.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the case.
