ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – To kick off Pinellas County Schools Spring Break, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue is partnering with St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation, the Suncoast Safe Kids Coalition, and Treasure Island Fire Rescue for a life jacket giveaway event to help kids stay safe in and around water.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in the United States among children 1 to 4 years of age and the third leading cause of accidental death among children/adolescents 5 to 19 years of age.

To prevent these tragedies, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue will be at the City of St. Petersburg Municipal Beach on Saturday, March 9th, distributing water safety information and free life jackets for children while supplies last.
