A 23-year-old Pennsylvania man was charged with fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend and then turning the knife on himself as he ran from police.

Trevor Christopher Weigel, 23, of Churchville, was arraigned on Sunday by Magisterial District Judge Michael W. Petrucci on charges of criminal homicide, burglary, possession of an instrument of crime, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He was denied bail.

The 19-year-old victim, Jaden Battista, had a previous relationship with Weigel.

According to investigators, on February 16, police were dispatched to the 2500 block of Waterford Road at 2:22 p.m. to investigate a burglary in progress.

Officers were informed that the incident was domestic-related.

When the first police officer arrived, he saw a man, later identified as Weigel, standing beside a red Ford Mustang with the passenger door open.

Investigators say that the suspect then started to chase a young woman, tackle her to the ground, and repeatedly stab her in the upper half of her body.

The officer saw the female bleeding heavily from the chest and the male fleeing on foot towards Interstate 295.

While fleeing, the male started stabbing himself on the right side of his neck while the officer began life-saving measures on the injured female and transported her to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Other Lower Makefield police officers arrested Wiegel. He was taken to the hospital, where he had surgery for his injuries.

Officers say they located the bloody knife was found at the scene.

According to the investigation, Battista was speaking to a friend via Facetime at 2:15 p.m. when she told the friend that Weigel, her ex-boyfriend, had arrived at her house unannounced and began banging on the door, attempting to enter.

While speaking with Battista, the friend overheard her mention that Weigel was able to enter the house through a first-floor window.

The friend heard a commotion, then a thump and Battista’s voice became muffled as if someone was holding a hand over her mouth to keep her from speaking.

After the phone call was terminated, the friend attempted to call back several times but received no response.

Weigel is being held on a no-bail status.
