Multiple charges have been brought against a 71-year-old Florida woman after she attempted to kill her husband after receiving a postcard from a woman he dated more than six decades ago.
According to records from the Miami-Dade County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Bertha Yalter was apprehended on January 29 on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated battery against an adult aged 65 or older, and tampering.
North Miami Police Department (NMPD) officers were called to an apartment and found an “extremely fragile” male victim with “several serious bruises and open lacerations,” according to WPLG-TV.
Police say the victim also exhibited “open bite marks that were bleeding.”
The man told investigators that he received a postcard from his ex-girlfriend whom he dated 60 years ago, infuriating Yalter. Reportedly, she attempted to suffocate him using a pillow.
In Yalter’s apartment near Northwest 169th Street and 35th Avenue, police reportedly discovered video evidence of the assault and apprehensioned her.
Yalter is being held on a no-bond status.
