RIVERVIEW, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a Riverview man for unlawfully recording people in a unisex restroom at a marijuana facility.

According to investigators, on June 30, 2023, HCSO received a call for service from the Verano Grow Facility reporting that a victim had discovered a cell phone hidden under the sink, which was video recording in the direction of the toilet.

Through investigative means, detectives found that the cell phone contained explicit videos of approximately 17 victims.

HCSO identified the cell phone owner as Christopher Scipio, 27, an employee of the facility. After deputies seized the cell phone as evidence, Scipio attempted to report his cell phone stolen in an effort to erase its data.

A warrant was issued for Scipio, and he was taken into custody on February 1, 2024.

Scipio has been charged with the following:

  • Video Voyeurism x31
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device

“This man’s actions are repulsive and disgraceful. We will not tolerate this invasion of privacy and exploitation in Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I want to commend the victim who came forward, as her actions likely prevented others from becoming victims.

Detectives believe there could be additional victims of Scipio. If anyone has any information, please call 813-247-8200.

Statement on behalf of MÜV

The safety of our employees and guests is always our top priority, and upon discovering the actions of a former employee at our production facility, we immediately informed law enforcement and terminated the employee. The incident did not take place at a MÜV dispensary, and was isolated to our cultivation facility. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement on their investigation.

Correction: Originally, it was reported that the facility where this crime occurred was MUV; investigators have updated that information to Verano Grow Facility.
