PLANT CITY, Fla. – A speeding car on I-4 collided with the back of a Polk County Fire Rescue ambulance on Friday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, a silver or gray Chrysler 300 was heading west around 7:12 p.m.

Officials say the car collided with a Polk County Fire Rescue ambulance with emergency lights activated just east of Exit 19. Thonotosassa Road, and hit the vehicle’s left rear.

According to authorities, the ambulance was transporting a 40-year-old female stroke patient to a Tampa-area hospital when it crashed.

After the crash, the car continued west on I-4 while the ambulance was driven to a controlled stop along the highway’s shoulder.

According to troopers, the stroke patient was airlifted from the crash scene for advanced medical care, and both paramedics in the ambulance were not injured during the incident.
