A Florida Democrat revealed on Wednesday that he believes a 141-year-old poem actually passes for U.S. policy.

Rep. Maxwell Frost of Orlando challenged Republican lawmakers to introduce a bill removing the State of Liberty because they advocate for sealing the porous southern border after more than 10 million illegal immigrants have filtered into the U.S.

Frost criticized Republicans during a House Oversight Committee hearing on how the Biden administration’s policies have undermined U.S. immigration law and border security.

According to The Hill, Frost, a freshman, made the challenge after reading part of the poem “The New Colossus,” the 1883 work by Emma Lazarus that is affixed to the statue on Ellis Island.

The liberal Democrat denounced GOP lawmakers for “dipping into the fascist playbook” for criticism of President Joe Biden’s border chaos.

Frost also accused Republicans of stoking violence against illegals by dubbing the rampant, uncontrolled influx of illegals an “invasion.”

Then, as an aide behind him held up a poster of the Statue of Liberty, Frost recited part of Lazarus’ poem.

“Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore,” he said. “Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Frost then urged Republicans, if they wanted to support a “bigoted” bill to enforce border security while also “peddling hate,” to also support a bill that he drafted to remove the Statue of Liberty, which he added is “our largest symbol that tells people to come here.”

“This is who you are, removing the fabric of America,” he added. “As Americans, we must reject hypocrisy and lead with love.”
