Sen. Marco Rubio slammed the leadership of one of boxing’s prime organizations after it opted to allow transgender women to brawl against biological women.
The Florida Republican called it “reprehensible” that officials at USA Boxing, the national governing body for Olympic-style amateur boxing, and which is governed by the U.S. Olympic Committee, would even entertain allowing biological men to step into a ring with women.
Rubio, in a letter to the organization dated Friday, argued that US Boxing must rescind its recently adopted “transgender policy,” which took effect for 2024.

According to the senator, USA Boxing, which was the first boxing organization to recognize women’s participation in the sport, permits trans men to duke it out with biological women once they have “sex-reassignment surgery” and consent to a yearslong regimen of hormone monitoring.
“Your transgender policy denies the scientific reality of sex, endangers women, upends fairness in athletics, and diminishes womanhood by pretending it is only a matter of surgery and hormone levels,” Rubio wrote to USA Boxing Executive Director and CEO Mike McAtee. “Moreover, your policy encourages athletes suffering from gender dysphoria to castrate themselves in order to compete.”
“I write to urge you to reverse this dangerous decision.”
“Allowing men to hit women is reprehensible, even under the guise of athletic competition. It is behavior no civilized country would tolerate, much less encourage,” Rubio added. “Civilized countries enforce special prohibitions on violence against women because there are differences between men and women that make men more capable of violence.”
Rubio noted the biological reality that men have greater muscle mass, larger hearts, more lung capacity, and denser and larger skeletal structures.

“These advantages allow men to overpower and endanger women past the point of fair competition. Hormone injections and monitoring cannot remove these innate, biological advantages. Even if they could, that would not change the fundamental principle that it is wrong for men to hit women.”
Rubio lamented that boxing joined other sports that have allowed men to crowd into women’s sports. Those efforts included powerlifting, swimming, cycling, and track.
“But it is especially egregious that they are allowed to compete against women in combat sports, where losing can mean serious blunt force trauma,” Rubio wrote.
The GOP lawmaker observed that other boxing organizations have rejected the idea of trans women fighting biological women.
“Protecting women is adequate reason to oppose this dangerous ‘transgender policy,’” he added.
But the policy will also hurt the trans boxers who, in furthering their beliefs about themselves, will seek the surgical removal of their genitals just to compete as their “perceived” sex.

They will go for a “dangerous and irreversible surgery that sterilizes them for life,” Rubio argued.
“Undoubtedly, your organization is under tremendous pressure from activists to promote transgenderism in the name of ‘inclusion,’” Rubio granted. “But that is no excuse to disregard and endanger athletes.”
“I urge you to recover your common sense, revoke your ‘transgender policy,’ and explicitly prohibit boxers of the opposite sex from fighting in the ring,” he concluded.
