Rep. Matt Gaetz and other House conservatives denounced the alleged compromise on illegal immigration proposed by Republican Sen. James Lankford and the Senate Democrats’ leader.

The Fort Walton Beach Republican labeled it a “nightmare,” and suggested that Lankford, an Oklahoma Republican, had stabbed in the back House GOP lawmakers who are trying to rein in President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies.

As Newsweek reported on Saturday, some details of the proposal by Lankford and Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer were leaked to Fox News and circulated by conservatives on X on Saturday.

  • Fox’s synopsis of the plan noted the following:
  • 5,000 new legal immigrants a day
  • 50,000 additional green cards a year
  • Work permits for adult children for those immigrants with temporary visas for work
  • Work permits for every illegal immigrant released from custody
  • Taxpayer-funded lawyers to represent unaccompanied children and those with mental disabilities
  • Restrictions on parole for those caught entering the U.S. between designated points of entry

Gaetz immediately announced his opposition on Saturday.

“The Senate Amnesty Bill is a nightmare,” he posted on X. “It gives legal status to illegal aliens who have gamed our system and broken our laws. It rolls out the red carpet for 5,000 illegals EVERY DAY, forever.”

“It’s hard enough to stop the far-left’s state-sponsored invasion of our Southern Border, and it’s even harder when you’re pulling Senator Langford’s (sic) daggers out of your back. I oppose the Senate Amnesty Deal and will work to see its defeat.”

In a separate post about illegal immigration, Gaetz added, “Right now, America is being invaded. Within this government funding dispute, we have to demand that the border be closed. NO DEPORTATIONS + NO BORDER = NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING.”

Gaetz was not alone.

One of his allies, Rep. Dan Bishop of Texas, posted on X: “How could this even be imagined?!  5,000 a day is 150,000/mo. The unprecedented threshold breached in January 2021 after the post-election ramp-up. Lankford proposes to institutionalize the crisis-level flow? As a ‘border security’ proposal?”

Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Tayloe Greene added on X: “NOOOOOOOO!!!!! This is NOT a border deal! This is a border SURRENDER!! Any elected U.S. politician that supports this doesn’t represent Americans, they represent the rest of the world! Don’t bring it to the floor, put it through a paper shredder!”

“Senate Republicans are working with Chuck Schumer on a secret ‘deal’ for AMNESTY & work permits for illegal immigrants,” Representative Mary Miller of Illinois wrote. “I will vote NO on the Senate Republican amnesty surrender deal. Secure the border, deport, and IMPEACH! Put America first!”
