PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman is in critical condition after a crash that happened on Saturday night. Deputies say impairment appears to be a factor in the crash.
At approximately 11:48 p.m. on January 13, 2024, deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to a single-vehicle crash in the area of 75th Avenue and Mangrove Avenue in St. Pete Beach.
According to deputies, 23-year-old Ka’Pone Wainwright was traveling westbound on Corey Causeway at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a palm tree in the roadway’s median.

Wainwright was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, speed and impairment appear to be factors in the investigation.
