Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was set to appear near Orlando on Saturday to promote her new book. But the resort slated to host the event canceled Greene at the last minute in part because a left-wing Democrat, aided by the media, falsely alleged the event was to celebrate the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

On Friday night, after learning the Westgate Resorts in Kissimmee had rejected her event, Greene noted on social media that critics “tried to shut down my book-signing,” but added that “the show must go on!!” according to The New York Times.

Greene, who is promoting her new book “M.T.G.,” instead moved her signing appearance to a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in St. Cloud. Greene is also scheduled to appear Sunday at the famous Iron Horse Saloon in Ormond Beach.

The controversy about her event erupted after far-left Orlando Democratic state Rep. Anna Eskamani posted about it on X Wednesday evening.

Eskamani shared screenshots of an invite issued by the Osceola County Republican Party, which hosted Greene. The invitation noted that the “occasion” of Greene’s appearance was the “3rd anniversary of Jan. 6.” The local GOP also noted attendees could meet a “prominent MAGA leader” and “staunch advocate for American priorities over foreign interests and special lobbying.”

In response, Eskamani posted, “Just another day in Florida where the local Republican Party in Osceola County is hosting an ‘anniversary’ event to mark January 6th and Marjorie Taylor Green is the ‘special’ guest. Was really hoping this was a joke when I first saw it.”

NBC News then picked up Eskamani’s text, referencing it in its report about Greene’s appearance on Thursday. “Greene’s visit and the fact that a local Republican Party is holding an event to commemorate Jan. 6 was blasted by some Democrats in the state,” NBC News noted before quoting Eskamani’s text.

Later on Thursday, according to the Times, Westgate Resorts notified Mark Cross, chairman of the Osceola County Republican Party, that Greene was out.

He told the Times that Westgate’s response was triggered by a “combination of disinformation that was put out and a lot of miscommunication between parties.”

Cross maintained that the theme of Greene’s appearance was to honor Republican women, and that the event “just happened to be on Jan. 6.”

“We’re not going out of the way to celebrate Jan. 6 — it’s something that happened. It was a negative thing for everyone involved,” Cross told the Times. He also noted that his group “didn’t pick the day.”

In a statement, Westgate said, “Please be advised that Westgate was not made aware of the purpose of this event when we were approached to host a book-signing.”

The irony, of course, is that Democrats are also seizing on the anniversary of Jan. 6 and the date as an effort to paint all Republicans as insurrectionists and traitors.

On its media website as of Saturday morning, the White House included the text of President Joe Biden’s J6 speech from Friday, under the headline: “Remarks by President Biden on the Third Anniversary of the January 6th Attack and Defending the Sacred Cause of American Democracy.”

“You can’t be pro-insurrectionist and pro-American,” Biden said in that speech.

Meanwhile, in the past couple of days, many prominent Democrats — such as the Democratic Attorneys General Association, former Attorney General Eric Holder, Rep. Norma Torres of California, the Indiana Democratic Party — issued press releases commemorating the third anniversary of the riot.

For example, Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl released a statement on Friday condemning former President Donald Trump for his actions on J6 and recognizing “the solemn third anniversary of the January 6th insurrection.”
