Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia on Wednesday applauded her fellow House Republicans for finally pursuing an impeachment effort against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, a Tennessee Republican, announced Wednesday that the committee will hold its first impeachment hearing for Mayorkas on Jan. 10.
“Our investigation made clear that this [illegal immigration] crisis finds its foundation in Secretary Mayorkas’ decision-making and refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress and that his failure to fulfill his oath of office demands accountability,” Green said in a statement.
“The bipartisan House vote in November to refer articles of impeachment to my Committee only served to highlight the importance of our taking up the impeachment process – which is what we will begin doing next Wednesday.” Related: Tennessee Rep. In an interview with JustTheNews.com, Marjorie Taylor Greene told hosts John Solomon and Amanda Head that she was “thrilled” that the hearing had been scheduled and that new Speaker Mike Johnson was at the border to call attention to the chaos created by Mayorkas’ implementation of President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies.

“This is well overdue, and most Americans are not really jumping up and down. They’re actually saying it’s about time,” said Greene, a member of the Homeland Security Committee.
The Georgia Republican believed her cause had all but lost less than two months ago.
In November, eight House Republicans joined Democrats in a 209-201 vote to skip an up-or-down vote on Mayorkas and send her impeachment resolution to the Homeland Security Committee.
Those eight GOP lawmakers included Reps. Ken Buck of Colorado, Darrell Issa of California, Tom McClintock of California, Patrick McHenry, R-North Carolina, John Duarte of R-California, Virginia Foxx of North Carolina, Cliff Bentz of Oregon, and Mike Turner of Ohio.

At the time, Greene argued that the committee process was where articles of impeachment “go to die.”
But on Wednesday, Greene relished her efforts to drive the House to a vote on possibly dumping Mayorkas.
“The right thing to do is to impeach the secretary of Homeland [Security] for failing the American people and absolutely breaking his oath to the American people to defend the United States of America and protect our border, which he absolutely has not,” she said.
“People know the problem and they want something done about it.”
“This is absolutely an invasion,” she added, and “it’s treason” to not enforce our laws. “I can’t believe that’s how I feel about it.”
On X on Wednesday, Greene posted this issue was “personal to me” because of the “murder” of two of her constituents, Jose and Isabel Lerma.

As the Tampa Free Press reported at the time, Greene filed impeachment articles against the Homeland Security chief after the Lermas, both in their 60s, died after a head-on collision caused by a suspected human smuggler ferrying five illegal immigrants through Texas.
The Lerma’s left behind five children.
“Secretary Mayorkas invited this invasion, and the blood is on his hands. His total disregard for American life can no longer be ignored. We can’t afford it,” Greene posted.
“Americans are being slaughtered just traveling to see their families. Lives have been lost forever, and more will continue to die as the price for Secretary Mayorkas’s open border policies and invitation to come here from every corner of the world.”
“This is why I introduced articles to impeach Mayorkas multiple times last year and demanded his impeachment in January before we left for break,” she added. “I will not rest until we #ImpeachMayorkas!”
