HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Gibsonton teen was killed in a crash that happened around 1:57 am on Sunday, troopers say.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Chevy Equinox, driven by a 44-year-old Wimauma man, was traveling southbound on US-41 while an Acura TL, driven by a 17-year-old Gibsonton boy, was traveling northbound on US-41.

Troopers say that near the intersection of Villemaire Road, the Chevy made a U-turn into the path of the Acura.

Despite evasive action, the Acura crashed into the Chevy, entered the grass median, rotated back across the roadway, and onto the east shoulder.
