Florida Gov. DeSantis Says Prepare For Someone Other Than Biden Or Newsom In ’24

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis seeks to leverage his close relationship with his popular counterpart in Iowa to make up ground on former President Donald Trump in one of the first states to vote next year.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday that Republicans must prepare for someone other than President Joe Biden will be the Democratic Party’s nominee, although that someone will not likely be left-wing California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

DeSantis made the argument about an alternative candidate from the left during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. DeSantis began by saying that’s why he felt his debate with Newsom two weeks ago was critical.

But, he added, many Democrats want someone other than Biden. The question is: Who will that be?

With Biden, said DeSanits, Democrats “understand the liabilities. They understand his bad policies. … He’s got so many issues that are clouding his presidency, he clearly would not be a great candidate for the Democrats.”

He also pointed out the pending impeachment inquiry of Biden, which the governor said was justified even if overdue.

Yet Biden is the obstacle, as he is unwilling to leave the race, DeSantis said.

Despite that, said DeSantis, Republicans need to be ready for “whoever they pull out of the hat.”

“Newsom has been waiting in the wings,” Desantis continued. “Quite frankly, after that debate, I’m not sure that that’s the candidate that they would want, because he embraced Biden, said Biden did an A-plus job as president … but then he also is saddled with all of his baggage in California.”

“You have homelessness through the roof, crime pushing people out of communities, and even all the poop on the street in San Francisco,” DeSantis told Hannity.

“I don’t think they want to have to litigate on two fronts: to have to defend Biden’s failed policies and defend the failed California policies. But I do think we have to be ready that it could be someone else.”
