Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis clearly won last week’s debate with his left-wing counterpart from California, Gov. Gavin Newsom.
But the outcome of the 90-minute event may have been even more devastating for the West Coaster had his wife not intervened.
According to the conservative website American Greatness on Friday, Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, shut down the debate as Fox News host Sean Hannity and the governors were preparing to extend it into overtime, for perhaps another hour.

Gov. Newsom was actually the one who wanted to keep going.
“Let’s just do an extended hour. I’m happy to do it,” Newsom told Hannity as the moderator prepared for a final commercial break, according to American Greatness.
To which Hannity replied: “We will take a break. They have agreed to stay. Well, that’s, I guess, the debate on the fly. We’ll continue on the other side and later have live post-debate coverage.”
Yet that idea quickly evaporated as Jennifer Newsom stepped in.
Citing an NBC News report, she “came into the debate room on at least two occasions to raise some objections.”
“She also made her way to the stage during the break after the candidates agreed to extend the debate and put an end to it,” the report continued. A source unaffiliated with either governor confirmed that Mrs. Newsom squelched any further interaction between the governors.

“We’re done,” she said simply.
Hannity then went back on the air to explain the debate was in fact over because both men had “other commitments.”
Newsom’s camp denied the allegations that the governor’s wife tossed in the towel.
The Californian’s team also claimed DeSantis cheated. They asserted he had access to a teleprompter that showed Hannity’s questions, which Fox News denied.
They were also upset the Sunshine State Republican utilized props to make his case, including a “poop map” app that shows which San Francisco streets are covered in feces and a illustrations from “Genderqueer,” an obscene LGBTQ book that Florida has removed from school libraries, but which still resides in those in California.

Jennifer was also angry that DeSantis invoked her parents, who relocated from California to Florida while her husband was in office. The move reportedly occurred as Gov. Newsom was locking down his state to deal with the pandemic.
“Gavin Newsom got beat so badly last night his wife literally had to throw in the towel for him. It was embarrassing,” DeSantis spokesman Andrew Romeo said.
