Florida saw a drop in unemployment claims during the Thanksgiving week. The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday released a report showing an estimated 3,817 initial jobless claims were filed in Florida last week, down from a revised count of 6,268 during the week that ended Nov. 18.
The estimate for the holiday-shortened week was the lowest since 3,698 claims were filed during the week that ended May 28, 2022, just before Memorial Day. Florida has averaged 5,431 claims over the past four weeks.
Nationally, 218,000 claims were filed last week, an increase of 7,000 from the previous week.

Florida had a 2.8 percent unemployment rate in October, with an estimated 318,000 people out-of-work from a labor force of 11.174 million.
The state Department of Commerce will issue November unemployment figures on Dec. 22.
