TAMPA, Fla. – A 40-year-old Tampa man is behind bars after investigators say he made vile threats to the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office.
On Wednesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division was alerted to a series of alarming online threats targeting the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office.
Detectives identified Travis Leigh, 40, through rigorous investigation and diligent efforts as the suspect.
Detectives responded to Leigh’s residence, and he admitted to ‘transmitting written threats,’ expressing his intent to cause harm to the Tax Collector’s Office because he was frustrated with their customer service.

“We take any threat against our public institutions and their employees very seriously,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. “Our detectives acted swiftly and efficiently to ensure the safety of all involved and to uphold the integrity of our community institutions.”
Travis Leigh was arrested and is facing the charge of ‘written or electronic threat to kill or do bodily injury.’
