First-time unemployment claims in Florida dipped slightly the week before Thanksgiving. The U.S. Department of Labor estimated that 5,928 initial claims were filed in the state during the week that ended Nov. 18, down from a revised count of 5,979 during the previous week.
Florida has averaged 5,831 initial claims a week since the start of the year.

The latest numbers came after the Florida Department of Commerce said on Nov. 17 that the state had a 2.8 percent unemployment rate in October, with an estimated 318,000 people out-of-work from a labor force of 11.174 million.
The national unemployment rate in October was 3.9 percent.
