Sony Pictures is carrying out a global search for their youthful co-star for a new Karate Kid film starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.
Ten thousand people submitted to the open casting call just one day after the announcement, according to Hollywood Reporter.
In the search description, the Karate Kid team is looking for a “smart, scrappy and skilled martial artist” who can “portray Chinese or mixed-race Chinese and between 15-17 years old.”

Fluent English is required, whereas conversational Mandarin is a plus.
Macchio, who played Daniel LaRusso in the original 1984 film The Karate Kid, as well as the two sequels and the current Netflix series Cobra Kai, makes the perfect sensei for whoever gets cast.
In the 2010 adaptation of The Karate Kid, Chan portrayed Mr. Han, Jaden Smith’s mentor.
