Former President Donald Trump is promoting a song by some of those jailed for participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, while a left-wing New York congressman scoffs at those who question his slap on the wrist for committing a similar crime.
Trump opened a rally in Houston on Thursday to the song “Justice for All” by a group known as the J6 Prison Choir, who are accused of being involved in the riot.
The song is a mash-up of the choir singing the “The Star-Spangled Banner” and Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
For a brief time after it was released in March, the song was No. 1 on the singles charts of iTunes and Billboard. Trump noted that it topped songs by both Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus.

Trump also saluted while the song played, and later told the crowd, “I call them the ‘J6 hostages,’ not prisoners.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, New York Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman dismissed reporters’ questions about his recent conviction on a misdemeanor charge of falsely pulling a fire alarm.
Bowman did so in September to stall House debate on an emergency spending bill, apparently an attempt to delay lawmakers’ action on the bill in the hope of triggering a government shutdown that could be blamed on Republicans.
As the Tampa Free Press reported, Bowman, through a plea deal with prosecutors, must write a letter of apology to the U.S. Capitol Police and pay a $1,000 fine. His record will be cleared of the conviction if he stays out of trouble for the next few months.
The left-wing lawmaker initially claimed it was an accident, that he pulled the alarm thinking it would open a door from his House office building. Last week, however, video emerged that showed Bowman ripping down emergency warning signs on the door just before he pulled the alarm.

According to the National Pulse website on Saturday, Bowman contemptuously dismissed questions from reporters about the incident.
“Man, why are we still talking about this, man?” he retorted during an interview outside the Capitol on Wednesday.
“That’s behind me, that’s been adjudicated, we’re done. Pay the fine, move forward, in three months it’ll be dismissed,” added Bowman, who insisted he was “very straight from the very beginning” about his actions being an “accident,” despite all the evidence.
When pressed by reporters about Republicans still seeking to hold him accountable, a frustrated Bowman added, “Come on, man. Yeah, whatever, man. That’s all good.”
GOP lawmakers allege that Bowman should face the same federal charge of disrupting an official proceeding that was leveled against many J6 defendants who trespassed in the Capitol as the riot went on outside.
As the National Pulse added, “Many January 6th protesters accused of disrupting Congressional proceedings are facing months or even years in federal prison.”
