Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin canned the leftist website Eventbrite after the live-events scheduling company canceled conservative activist Riley Gaines but allowed LGBTQ groups to remain posted, despite supporting Hamas.

“There’s no place to sit on a fence here,” Youngkin told conservative podcasters Clay Travis and Buck Sexton about the Hamas terrorist attacks earlier this month that killed more than 1,400 Israelis and at least 33 Americans.

“You’re either condemning it or condoning it.”

By its actions, Eventbrite indicated it was condoning Hamas’ raid, Youngkin suggested.

But compounding that situation was that Eventbrite chose to cancel Gaines, a former all-American swimmer at the University of Kentucky who has vigorously campaigned against transgender women competing in women’s sports.

Gaines was featured to speak on Friday at a program called “Protecting Women’s Sports” at the University of California-Davis.

Eventbrite yanked down the posting because Gaines was participating.

The company claimed the event violated its terms of service. In a note that Gaines posted on X (formerly Twitter), Eventbrite said, “We do not allow content or events that… discriminate against, harass, disparage, threaten, incite violence against, or otherwise target individuals or groups based on their actual or perceived race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, veteran status, age, or disability”.

Eventbrite responded to the criticism of its treatment of Gaines by asserting it did not have any pro-Hamas events on its site.

The conservative sports website Outkick.com replied with information about two upcoming events. One, slated for Nov. 1, was called “Stop the Genocide! Free Palestine!” and slated for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City.

“The fact that, first of all, Eventbrite continues to carry events around Hamas is unbelievable. But then, on top of that, to proactively terminate an agreement with Riley is beyond belief,” Youngkin told Travis and Sexton on Monday.

“As governor, I have told our political committee that we will no longer use Eventbrite. The governor’s office is no longer using Eventbrite. And I would ask your listeners: do not respond or RSVP to an invitation from Eventbrite. Just stop using ’em,” he added.

“When a company decides it’s gonna make statements on political and social issues, they have to live with the consequences. And the blowback here has been warranted,” Youngkin continued.

“When companies take these kinds of stances, the customers can fire them,” he concluded. “And in our case, we fired ’em.”
