Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York, finally got charged for his effort to stall Congress during an official proceeding, but it remains to be seen if he will suffer a similar fate for allegedly committing the same crime as many of the Jan. 6, 2021, rioters.

So far, the outcome of his prosecution suggests there is no way he will endure what the J6ers did.

According to PJ Media on Wednesday, Bowman drew a misdemeanor charge under Washington, D.C.’s criminal code for issuing a false fire alarm.

As the Tampa Free Press reported at the time, Bowman pulled the fire alarm during a House debate in late September, as lawmakers considered an emergency spending bill to keep the government functioning through mid-November.

Bowman did so as Democrats were working to sidetrack the spending bill, possibly causing a government shutdown that they could blame on Republicans.

Bowman claimed he accidentally yanked the alarm while rushing to vote on a bill.

The New York Democrat is expected to be in court on Thursday to enter his plea deal.

PJ Media noted that Bowman could have faced up to six months in jail for the stunt.

Yet he told Fox News that he cut a deal with prosecutors and accordingly will pay a $1,000 fine and “stay out of trouble for three months.”

The Hill also reported that Bowman must write a letter of apology to the U.S. Capitol Police. If he does that, the misdemeanor charge will be withdrawn.

“I’m thankful for the quick resolution from the District of Columbia Attorney General’s office on this issue and grateful that the United States Capitol Police General Counsel’s office agreed I did not obstruct nor intend to obstruct any House vote or proceedings,” Bowman said in a statement Wednesday.

“I am responsible for activating a fire alarm, I will be paying the fine issued, and look forward to these charges being ultimately dropped.”

One of Bowman’s biggest critics in Congress, Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, highlighted Bowman’s soft treatment relative to the prosecution of the J6 mob.

“That’s not enough,” Greene told the website JustTheNews.com on Wednesday. “He should be in the D.C. gulag, along with the other people that walked into the Capitol on January 6. Why hasn’t the FBI raided his house in the middle of the night?”

“I’d like to know how many years he will rot in jail and have all of his rights denied to him,” Greene said. “Because isn’t the justice system equal?”

After the incident, as the Free Press reported at the time, Greene posted on X last month, “I’m calling on the DOJ [Department of Justice] to prosecute him using the same law they used to prosecute J6 [Jan. 6, 2021] defendants for interfering with an official proceeding.”
